One family, three payers, one front desk

A family practice may see a newborn on Medicaid, a parent on an employer plan, and a grandparent on Medicare in the same afternoon. Add office procedures and prenatal care, and the claim rules shift from visit to visit. Bring your service mix and Taiga will tell you straight whether it fits.

Cradle-to-grave care, claim by claim

Family medicine overlaps with general primary care, but the breadth of the panel creates its own billing work.

Whole-household payer mix

Members of one household can carry different coverage, from Medicaid or CHIP for children to commercial or Medicare plans for adults. Eligibility has to be checked per patient, not per family, and each payer brings its own preventive and visit rules.

Office procedures and global periods

Minor office procedures such as lesion removals, joint injections, and laceration repairs usually carry Medicare global periods of 0 or 10 days. A visit on the procedure day is generally not paid separately unless it is a distinct, separately documented service.

Longitudinal visits and G2211

Medicare pays the G2211 add-on when the practitioner is the continuing focal point for a patient's care. Since January 2025 it can be paid with a modifier 25 visit only when the other same-day service is a Part B preventive service, an immunization administration, or an Annual Wellness Visit.

Splitting the work across a broad panel

A wide service mix needs a clear map of who handles each kind of claim.

The practice keeps

Clinical notes, procedure documentation, and the choice of which services you offer. Your physicians approve every code before a claim is submitted.

Taiga takes on

Code drafts from each note, eligibility checks for every family member, claim scrubbing against payer rules, submission, denials, appeals, and patient statements.

Decide on the edges

Prenatal and delivery care may be billed as a package or visit by visit, depending on the payer and who delivers. Map those cases, plus any hospital or nursing home rounds, before work moves.

Questions to settle on a family medicine call

Bring a de-identified sample of claims across age groups. Keep patient details out of the booking form.

Which services do you offer?

List office visits, procedures, prenatal or obstetric care, behavioral health, and any work outside the clinic.

Where do denials cluster?

Note whether rework comes from same-day procedure visits, preventive visits, or eligibility for children's plans.

How do procedures reach the claim?

Show how procedure notes and supply charges move from your EHR to billing today, so the handoff covers them.

For family practices with a wide service mix

Useful for independent family physicians who want one partner drafting codes and following through on claims across pediatric, adult, and Medicare patients, with physicians still approving each code.

Not a promise for every service line

Family medicine is not one of Taiga's named specialties. Obstetric packages, hospital rounding, and other edge services are confirmed one at a time on the fit call.

Questions about family medicine billing

Can G2211 be billed with a same-day procedure?

For Medicare, G2211 is not paid when the visit carries modifier 25, except when the other same-day service is a Part B preventive service, an immunization administration, or an Annual Wellness Visit.

Is a visit on the day of a minor procedure billable?

Usually not under Medicare's global surgery rules, unless the visit addresses a separate problem and is documented as a distinct service.

Can Taiga handle children and Medicare patients in the same practice?

Bring your service mix and Taiga will tell you straight whether it fits. Taiga checks eligibility and scrubs claims against each payer's rules, which is the core work a mixed panel needs.

How long does it take to get started?

About two weeks to the first claim, with no change to your EHR. Taiga can take over open A/R or run in parallel with your current process at first.
